Duties:

  • Serve as a liaison with both internal and external personnel to disseminate information concerning assigned programs.
  • Conduct comprehensive Inspector General (IG) inspections across all aspects of operational processes and the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Enlistment Testing Program.
  • Analyze automated data systems used by subordinate elements, ensuring proper utilization.
  • Utilize standardized IG procedures to execute mission objectives effectively.
  • Identify deficiencies in assigned programs and recommend corrective actions.
  • Apply IG inspection processes to identify and resolve issues within the program.
  • Compile results from inspections and management analyses for review by Command leadership.
  • Draft final IG reports and provide comprehensive recommendations.
  • Advise command staff on adherence to Internal Review Directives.
  • Brief senior management on inspection findings, results, and recommendations.
  • Provide training and guidance to subordinate staff on program requirements and processes.
  • Perform duties at the GS-09 level in a developmental capacity under supervision, with the potential for promotion to the target grade.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Security Clearance: Secret clearance required (Critical Sensitive Position).
  • Travel: Approximately 50% required for domestic travel, including Puerto Rico.
  • Certification: Must graduate from the DoD Inspector General School within 6 months and maintain certification as per AR 20-1.
  • Background Investigation: Appointment is subject to a completed background investigation and suitability determination.
  • Position Sensitivity: This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined by DoD 5200.2-R.
  • Time in Grade: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements as per GS-09/GS-11 standards.

Qualifications:

  • GS-09 Level:

    • At least one year of specialized experience (typically in or related to IG work at the GS-07 level or equivalent).
    • Specialized experience includes assisting in conducting IG inspections, drafting IG reports, training staff, and supporting mission execution through data analysis.
    • OR: Education substitution of a master’s degree or two full years of graduate-level education in related fields such as Law, Auditing, Public Administration, or Business Management.
    • OR: A combination of education and experience may qualify (see details in the job announcement).
  • GS-11 Level:

    • At least one year of specialized experience (typically in or related to IG work at the GS-09 level or equivalent).
    • Specialized experience includes conducting IG inspections, analyzing and evaluating data to make recommendations, preparing inspection reports, and advising staff on operational processing.
    • OR: Education substitution of a Ph.D. or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in related fields such as Law, Auditing, Public Administration, or Business Management.
