Job Overview

The U.S. Department of Defense seeks dedicated and highly responsible Security Guards to perform access control duties, protect personnel and assets, and maintain safety and security across installations. Key Responsibilities

Access Control Management

  • Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles using established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Authenticate identification through systems such as electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), biometric records, identification cards, and verbal questioning.
  • Issue visitor passes or refer visitors for special access, ensuring compliance with all security protocols.

Visitor Control Operations

  • Manage the Visitor Control Center (VCC), handling routine and unique visitor access requests.
  • Operate and perform queries using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal by federal and state laws.

Security Enforcement

  • Conduct facility access control to prevent theft, trespassing, and unauthorized entry.
  • Monitor and safeguard personnel, information, and critical assets.
  • Respond to emergencies and enforce security policies effectively.

Operational Support

  • Participate as a member of the installation's overall security response team.
  • Operate electronic equipment and sensors, maintaining required certifications.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations during severe weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of specialized experience in protective services, including facility access control, security equipment operation, and enforcing security regulations.
  • Proficiency in maintaining logs and records of visitor information.

Certifications and Skills

  • State certification for operating NCIC terminals.
  • Proficiency in CPR, first aid, and the use of assigned firearms and security equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage visitor inquiries and access control issues effectively.

Physical and Medical Requirements

  • Must pass annual medical exams and physical agility tests.
  • Ability to wear protective gear, including chemical masks and overgarments.
  • Maintain physical conditioning and readiness for emergency response duties.

  • Eligibility for Secret-level security clearance with a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate government vehicles.
  • Compliance with pre-employment and random drug screening as per AR 600-85.
