At Houston Methodist, the Psychometrician position is responsible for providing high quality services in administering and scoring neuropsychological and psychological tests, and performing neuropsychological evaluations, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. This position also participates in divisional activities where appropriate and department initiatives, identifying and assisting with opportunities for performance improvement activities for programs.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships, trust and credibility with all on the healthcare team, serving as clinical resource for routine matters with peers and physicians.
  • Provides guidance and training for clinical students, acting as a resource and mentor.
  • Collaborates with interprofessional team members to provide clinical expertise, providing appropriate clinical judgment and support interprofessional health care team.
  • Recommends opportunities for improvement of department score for turnover/retention/employee engagement.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Administers neuropsychological evaluations under the direction of the licensed psychologist. Assists in report formatting and writing when directed by licensed psychologist.
  • Completes assignments that include data collection and entry, and basic analysis when directed by section head.
  • Conducts presentations/lectures as required by section head.
  • Contributes towards improving department scores for patient satisfaction on scorecard through peer-to-peer accountability.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Administers and scores all paper-and-pencil and computerized neuropsychological and psychological test instruments as directed by senior staff member within the generally designated time limitations set forth in Neuropsychology.
  • Maintains records as directed by division guidelines.
  • Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities, impacting quality and safety targets, reporting near misses, and collaborating with the interprofessional team. Contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works in conjunction with department to reduce any waste of resources and materials and perpetuate financial stewardship and growth.
  • Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks for self and area(s) of responsibility to meet the labor productivity standards. Utilizes time between heavy workloads efficiently and helps other team members.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Participates in specified division clinical education programs, division meetings and psychometrics meetings. Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement hospital projects and department activities
  • Maintains personal professional development through professional organization membership. Completes and updates the My Development plan on an on-going basis. Seeks opportunities to expand learning to further their education for growth with a focus on continual development.

EDUCATION

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Six months supervised experience in psychological or neuropsychological test administration

  • CSP - Certified Specialist in Psychometry (BCP) within 3 years
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Demonstrates ability to work with patients of all age levels
  • Demonstrates ability to handle situations that might arise in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Maintain skills necessary to perform these duties including mastery of new assessment measures and scoring procedures when indicated
  • Ability for self-direction, flexibility
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (training available)
