Duties:

  • Utilize knowledge of vehicle dimensions (height, width, length, and weight) to assess overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and the proper distance from other vehicles to ensure safety.
  • Operate vehicle controls effectively for starting, stopping, backing, and driving.
  • Drive vehicles according to specific assignments or established schedules, transporting personnel, supplies, and materials across the installation, including picking up and delivering items such as equipment, mail, and other correspondence.
  • Follow maintenance protocols for the vehicle being driven and address any maintenance needs.
  • Frequently handle objects up to 50 pounds, move heavy furniture, and occasionally lift objects over 50 pounds during loading and unloading tasks.
  • Adhere to safety standards to prevent accidents, cuts, bruises, and broken bones while driving or handling cargo.

Requirements:

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability determination through a completed background check.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid state driver’s license to operate vehicles in the U.S. or territories.
  • The role requires obtaining and maintaining eligibility for a Secret security clearance, along with a background investigation and credit check.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug tests throughout employment.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Incumbent will undergo a one-year probationary period unless previous requirements under 5 CFR Part 315 are met.
  • Occasional travel (5% of the time) may be required.
