Aircraft Mechanic

Position Overview

The Air Reserve Technician (ART) position involves comprehensive maintenance and troubleshooting of major aircraft systems. The role includes inspecting, repairing, and testing critical aircraft components while providing technical training to reservists. Responsibilities span across mechanical systems such as airframe, landing gear, hydraulics, and flight controls, ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Aircraft Systems Inspection and Troubleshooting:

   • Conduct detailed inspections of aircraft systems and components.
   • Identify and resolve operational and technical issues per technical manuals and standards.

2. Maintenance and Repairs:

   • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex aircraft systems and subsystems.
   • Ensure compliance with applicable technical orders and specifications.

3. Record-Keeping and Documentation:

   • Maintain detailed manual and automated records of maintenance activities.
   • Ensure proper documentation of equipment usage and repair logs.

4. Safety and Worksite Management:

   • Follow established safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
   • Apply safety practices and regulations during aircraft maintenance.

5. Training and Quality Assurance:

   • Provide training to reservists in maintenance practices and procedures.
   • Verify and certify the quality of maintenance work performed by colleagues and trainees.

Requirements & Conditions of Employment

• U.S. Citizenship: Required.
• Selective Service: Male applicants must register at www.sss.gov.
• Security Clearance: May be required.
• Work Hours: Includes potential shift work, weekends, holidays, and emergency overtime.
• Drug Testing: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP), subject to random drug testing.
• Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (up to 80 lbs), prolonged standing, bending, climbing, and operation of special-purpose vehicles.
• Environmental Factors: Exposure to hazardous environments, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and loud noise.

Qualifications

Experience

• Demonstrated ability to independently perform maintenance and troubleshooting on aircraft systems and components.
• Competence in reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Knowledge of safety practices, supply procedures, and maintenance documentation.

Skills and Abilities

• Expertise in the operation and adjustment of integrated aircraft systems, including hydraulics, flight controls, and engines.
• Proficiency with specialized tools, test equipment, and aircraft instruments.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve system malfunctions and determine repair or replacement needs.

This position may result in a 120-day register to fill similar vacancies. It is part of the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family and does not have an education qualification requirement.

Work Environment

Work is performed in hangars, outdoor areas, or on aircraft, often in challenging environmental conditions. Employees may encounter hazardous substances, extreme temperatures, and physically demanding tasks, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
