Position Overview:
You will serve as the Department Technology Officer, acting as a principal advisor on Research & Development (R&D) and Science & Technology (S&T) initiatives. Your role will encompass policy guidance, organizational strategy, and fostering innovation to advance mission areas. Key duties include assessing technological advancements, leading investments in emerging sciences, and ensuring the delivery of effective technology solutions for the department’s needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in R&D and S&T policy, competencies, and mission areas.
  • Foster innovation through partnerships across defense organizations, academia, and industry.
  • Evaluate and recommend strategic technology directions, balancing current and future warfighter requirements.
  • Lead and manage technology roadmaps, investments, and transition strategies.
  • Provide regular reports on the value and impact of department science and technology initiatives.

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Compliance with federal employment suitability, including E-Verify and Selective Service registration (if applicable).
  • Must obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Position may require CONUS and OCONUS travel, including remote or isolated sites.
  • Mission Essential designation, ensuring continuity of operations during emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • Specialized Experience: At least one year equivalent to ND-04 pay band (GS-12/13) leading programs, systems development, or R&D for warfare initiatives.
  • Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
    • Alternatives include FE/EIT certification, state licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent academic and professional experience in related scientific fields.
