Duties:

  • Supervision & Leadership: Serve as a Supervisory Staff Administrator, exercising supervision and control on behalf of the Battalion Commander.
  • Operations Management: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Battalion, ensuring coordination and integration of various activities.
  • Readiness Oversight: Maintain oversight of the readiness status of subordinate units and advise the Commander on policy matters related to the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).
  • Policy Implementation: Analyze and implement directives, policies, and instructions from higher authorities within the Battalion.
  • Program Monitoring: Monitor and direct actions needed to improve the Battalion’s programs, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Budget Management: Identify and develop requirements for the Battalion’s yearly budget, focusing on Reserve Personnel Army and Operations Maintenance Army Reserve funds.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Suitability & Background: Appointment is contingent upon a suitability or fitness determination from a background investigation.
  • Security Clearance: Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Active Membership: This position requires active membership as a Soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).

Qualifications:

Who May Apply:

  • The position is open to applicants who meet one of the following categories:
    • Current Department of Army Civilian Employees applying for time-limited assignments.
    • Other eligible categories based on specific employment authority, which are outlined in the job announcement.

Specialized Experience:

  • One year of specialized experience that includes:
    • Managing or coordinating operations, plans, and programs for a unit (e.g., personnel/pay management, training, administration, supply, maintenance, resource management, etc.).
    • Interpreting and advising on directives, policies, or instructions from higher headquarters.
    • Performing evaluations or inspections to ensure unit readiness.

Education (Alternate Qualification):

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in fields like Business Management or Business Administration.
  • A combination of education and experience may also qualify, where the total percentage of experience and graduate education meets 100%.

Competencies:

  • Administration and Management: Ability to manage unit operations effectively.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in military or civilian operations.
  • Oral Communication: Strong communication skills for advising and coordinating with senior staff and the Commander.
  • Organizational Performance Analysis: Ability to evaluate unit readiness and program performance.

Additional Requirements:

  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Trial/Probationary Period: A one-year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Supervisory Probationary Period: A one-year supervisory probationary period may apply.
  • Direct Deposit: Direct deposit of pay is required.

Additional Information:

  • Time-Limited Appointment: This position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment, or change to a lower grade, not to exceed one year, with a possibility of extension.
  • PCS Costs: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
  • Army Civilian Education System (CES): As a supervisor, completion of the Supervisory Development Course (SDC) within one year of placement is required.
