Summary:

The U.S. Department of Defense is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Security Specialist to ensure the protection and security of personnel, facilities, and assets against potential threats, including criminal activities, terrorism, espionage, and natural disasters. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of physical security, access control systems, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Access Control Management:

    • Operate and maintain the Rapid Time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS) for issuing Common Access Cards (CAC) to service members, DoD civilians, and contractors.
    • Manage and document the issuance, accountability, and renewal of security and access badges.
  • Physical Security Oversight:

    • Administer and coordinate security systems, including CCTV, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and ID badge systems.
    • Conduct physical security and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
    • Develop and implement security education and motivation programs.
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to safety rules, regulations, and directives applicable to security operations.
    • Review and interpret agency policies, guidelines, and federal regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Operational Security Support:

    • Assist in developing and maintaining the organization’s security office website.
    • Collaborate with local and federal security partners to enhance security initiatives.
    • Travel (up to 25%) for training, meetings, and on-site evaluations as required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • GS-09 Level:

    • One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level that includes applying security principles, implementing RAPIDS procedures, conducting vulnerability assessments, and recommending protective measures.
    • OR: Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
    • OR: A combination of relevant education and experience.
  • GS-11 Level:

    • One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level that includes performing security inspections, developing security plans, managing access control programs, and interpreting laws and regulations.
    • OR: Ph.D. or three years of progressively advanced graduate education in a relevant field.
    • OR: A combination of relevant education and experience.

Competencies:

  • Physical Security
  • Security Education, Training, and Awareness
  • Security Program Management

Certifications and Clearances:

  • Must possess or obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Maintain RAPIDS certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Participation in the Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Completion of a background investigation.
