Advanced Practice Nurse

Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner/Occupational Health) oversees and delivers occupational medicine services at a medical treatment facility. This role includes organizing preventive medicine programs, ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, supervising clinic personnel, and providing direct patient care through medical assessments, diagnostics, and treatment of occupational and non-occupational illnesses.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Management

   • Organize and direct the Occupational Medicine and Preventive Medicine Program to support workforce health and safety.
   • Conduct periodic audits of OSHA programs and facilities for regulatory compliance.

2. Supervisory Duties

   • Supervise and evaluate clinical personnel in the Occupational Medicine Clinic, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with protocols.

3. Clinical Care

   • Provide medical assessments, diagnoses, and treatments in accordance with standardized medical protocols.
   • Prescribe pharmaceuticals as authorized by DHA privileges.

4. Regulatory Compliance

   • Inspect facilities and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other health-related regulations.
   • Maintain immunization screening and ensure hepatitis B and other required immunizations for clinical personnel.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

1. Educational Credentials

   • Graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited professional nursing program in the relevant specialty.
   • Foreign graduates must provide certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

2. Licensure

   • Active, unrestricted professional nursing license from a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

Professional Nursing Experience

• Minimum one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including:
  • Conducting patient examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribing medications.

Additional Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory. Advanced certifications (e.g., ALS) do not replace this requirement.

Conditions of Employment

• Security Clearance: Must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
• Drug Testing: This is a Testing Designated Position, subject to pre-employment and random drug screening.
• Immunizations: Seasonal influenza vaccination is mandatory, with exceptions for recognized exemptions.
• Supervisory and Probationary Periods: Includes a one-year supervisory probationary period if not previously completed.
• Credentialing: Applicants must fulfill credentialing requirements and maintain appropriate clinical privileges.
