Duties:

Research Assistant (RA):

  • Assist faculty mentors to enhance the value and effectiveness of AFIT-sponsored research, which supports graduate education.
  • Support tasks such as maintaining labs, equipment, hardware, software, literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and adapting equipment for new research.
  • Develop research products such as papers, presentations, and code for sponsored research deliverables.
  • Work closely with a faculty mentor to develop research skills and understand the academic discipline and research conduct.

Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Provide teaching assistance to instructors in the classroom for AFIT graduate education.
  • Responsibilities include coordinating courses, assisting with classroom activities, recommending grades on homework/exams, conducting review sessions, setting up labs, developing course material, and more.
  • TAs with an MS/ME may also deliver lessons, prepare lecture materials, and assist in developing homework and exams.
  • Under close supervision of an experienced instructor, TAs will enhance their instructional skills and understanding of faculty responsibilities.

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must undergo a background investigation with a favorable adjudication.
  • Selective Service registration for males.
  • Initial appointment is under Schedule A appointing authority, non-permanent, with possible extensions based on performance.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel for curriculum improvements, research, and presenting results may be required.
  • Federal Employees must have direct deposit.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship and a relevant undergraduate degree (finance, economics, logistics, IT, or related disciplines) from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written English on academic and technical topics.
  • Prior experience or education in research or teaching roles is preferred.

  • Veterans' Preference applies to eligible applicants.
