ADC Facility Operations Center Engineer

Overview:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an individual to support the Facility Operations Center (FOC) within AWS's Data Center Infrastructure Operations. The FOC is a key component in ensuring the reliability and operational excellence of AWS's global data center infrastructure. The team provides 24/7 monitoring of critical systems, such as power, cooling, and life-safety systems, supporting the continuity of AWS’s services.

As part of the FOC, you'll collaborate with a diverse team to ensure the availability and safety of infrastructure across AWS data centers, providing support in emergency and standard operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Alarm Monitoring & Response: Respond, acknowledge, investigate, and dispatch critical alarms related to infrastructure systems.
• Change Management: Perform change management tasks and follow procedures to ensure smooth operations.
• Ticketing & Documentation: Create and issue tickets for issues identified, ensuring accurate documentation of all events.
• Communication: Follow both verbal and written instructions; provide clear communication during normal and emergency operations.
• Infrastructure Monitoring: Support 24/7 monitoring of data center infrastructure systems such as chillers, generators, UPS, PDUs, and ATSs.
• Shift Work: Participate in rotating shift work, including weekends, nights, and holidays to ensure 24/7 operational coverage.

A Day in the Life:

The FOC operates as the central hub for monitoring AWS data center systems. You'll be involved in 24/7 remote monitoring, ensuring critical systems are functioning correctly and promptly responding to any alarms. You'll collaborate with internal teams, providing support and ensuring incidents are handled in a timely manner. You'll also play an active role in enforcing Change Management policies to ensure operational safety and integrity.

About the Team:

The Facility Operations Center (FOC) team is responsible for the life-safety systems and the physical infrastructure alarms that support AWS’s data center infrastructure. You will work alongside Data Center Engineer Operations teams to ensure the stability and reliability of critical equipment across AWS facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • 3+ years of technical support experience or a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in documenting technical customer issues.
  • Experience in customer-facing IT roles or physical security systems or infrastructure work.
  • Active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
• Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems.
• 3+ years of experience in customer service.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teams.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Pay: Ranges from $68,300/year in the lowest geographic market up to $152,700/year in the highest geographic market.
• Total Compensation: AWS offers a comprehensive compensation package, including equity, sign-on bonuses, and a range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
