Duties:

  • Inspect small arms to assess serviceability and identify necessary repairs.
  • Disassemble weapons to troubleshoot malfunctions and diagnose issues.
  • Repair small arms by replacing outdated parts or assemblies.
  • Adhere to safety and security regulations to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Analyze unit deficiencies and recommend training to address identified gaps.
  • Propose corrective actions based on established policies and procedures.
  • Use hand tools to perform repairs and adjustments.
  • Utilize measuring instruments to check for worn or damaged parts.
  • Record repairs and maintenance activities on appropriate forms.
  • Prepare reports on recurring equipment failures for analysis and corrective action.
  • Document and maintain inventory for accurate weapon accountability.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), including periodic gauging.
  • Conduct operational checks and final inspections to ensure repairs are completed.

Requirements:

  • Must be an active member of the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).
  • Appointment may be contingent upon a completed background investigation and a suitability or fitness determination.
  • A valid State Driver’s license is required for this position.
  • Medical examination may be required prior to employment.
  • Subject to Lautenberg Amendment and Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Participation in the Drug Abuse Testing Program is required.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the work of a Small Arms Repairer with minimal supervision. This includes inspecting, disassembling, repairing, and replacing components of small arms, performing operational tests, and documenting repairs.
  • Must have knowledge of tools, gauges, and measuring instruments used in small arms repair.
  • Experience in reading instructions, technical specifications, and blueprints is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting of subassemblies or small weapons (15-20 pounds), and carrying larger assemblies or weapons (up to 50 pounds).
  • Work involves walking, bending, and long periods of standing.
  • Exposure to oil, grease, and solvents during cleaning and lubrication processes.
  • Potential exposure to minor cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges.
  • Exposure to noise when test firing weapons.

Additional Information:

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must submit a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • U.S. citizenship verification will be required.
  • The position may require a one-year trial or probationary period.
  • Direct deposit of pay is mandatory.
  • Salary is based on the local prevailing rate and may vary by location.
