Job Overview

The U.S. Department of Defense seeks a skilled Interdisciplinary Engineer to provide advanced engineering support and leadership for defense acquisition programs. The role involves analyzing, designing, and monitoring contractor performance, with a focus on complex systems and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Support: Implement agency policies and provide expert feedback on engineering processes and performance indicators.
  • Contract Administration: Oversee engineering-related aspects of contracts in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) policies and standards.
  • Analysis and Evaluation: Assess contractor performance, review facilities and tools, and evaluate production capabilities to ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Advanced Engineering Functions: Lead engineering and analytical surveillance tasks, including testing, design, and performance monitoring of contractor engineering systems.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and evaluate engineering documents, addressing unique issues and providing expert recommendations to leadership.

Position Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
  • Subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service or exempt.

Basic Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • The Degree must be from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or equivalent.

2. Combination of Education and Experience

  • Includes coursework in areas such as statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and electrical circuits, with professional engineering experience.

3. Professional Registration or Licensure

  • Valid registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE).

Specialized Experience (NH-03 Level)

  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including:
    • Applying software engineering principles in defense acquisition systems.
    • Supporting embedded software, missile systems, or sensor technologies.
    • Reviewing contracts and ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
    • Leading engineering surveillance activities and implementing agency policies.

Education Requirements

  • Transcripts must be provided for verification of educational qualifications.
  • Education from foreign institutions must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

Additional Details

  • Work Schedule: Flexible, with potential for evening, weekend, or holiday work.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt.
  • Trial Period: Selectee may need to serve a probationary period.
  • Financial Disclosure: Required.
  • Certification: Must obtain DoD Acquisition Engineering & Technical Management certification within the specified timeframe.
