Job Description: Cloud Engineer

SAIC is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join its Engineering Team. This role focuses on solving engineering challenges across multiple cloud environments, working within a high-performing, collaborative team of cloud engineering professionals. The team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, and deployment of USSF Cloud Initiatives to enhance performance, reduce administrative workload, and provide a seamless user experience for customers.

The position is primarily based in Vandenberg, CA, Colorado Springs, CO, and El Segundo, CA, with hybrid work options. Clearance requirements range from Secret to Top Secret/SCI, and remote work may be possible based on specific demands, with travel and access to SCIFs as needed. This role supports the USSF Operational C2 Mission under Kobayashi Maru, which involves managing and transitioning mission-critical applications across global, hybrid IT environments.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Analyze system architecture and recommend secure design changes for classified cloud environments based on project objectives and clearance requirements.
  • Develop scripts and workflows for automated deployment of infrastructure, platforms, and applications.
  • Generate design documents, best practice configurations, and test procedures.
  • Execute system performance testing according to test plans and criteria.
  • Support architecture change management decisions in collaboration with the KM Cloud Architect.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reduce repetitive or manual processes with automation solutions.
  • Provide expertise on on-premises, hybrid, and public cloud toolsets and best practices.
  • Configure and troubleshoot cloud, virtual, and physical hardware and software systems.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with nine (9) years of relevant experience, or seven (7) years of IT experience with a Master's degree. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Active Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret clearance.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in AWS, Azure, and VMware environment development or engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Networking, VPNs, IaaS, PaaS, SQL, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Jira, Confluence, Artifactory, and VDI.
    • DevSecOps toolchains.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to mentor junior team members.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills for operational, tooling, and process inefficiencies.
  • Experience with containerization tools, such as Kubernetes.

Certifications:

  • Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II Certification or higher.
  • System Engineer/Administration/Architect certifications from one or more major cloud service providers (CSPs).

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience with other cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or AWS/Azure specialties.
  • Knowledge of zero trust architectures.
  • Experience with automation tools, including Ansible and Terraform.
  • Experience with TS+ Cloud or Platform 1 development, engineering, operations, and sustainment.
  • Expertise in networking, VPNs, storage, Active Directory, F5, Barracuda, and related technologies.

Target Salary Range:
$120,001 - $160,000. The estimate reflects the typical salary range for this role based on experience and other factors.
