Position Overview

As an Engineer specializing in MK 7 Mod 3 & Mod 4 Shipboard Recovery Equipment, you will provide critical technical direction and support for the development, testing, and operation of shipboard recovery systems. You will coordinate and participate in technical efforts to enhance the effectiveness and reliability of recovery systems and resolve complex mechanical and hydraulic issues. You will also advise leadership on technical and operational requirements, conduct investigations, and lead improvement initiatives for MK 7 recovery equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in technical aspects of MK 7 Mod 3 & Mod 4 shipboard recovery equipment programs.
  • Provide technical guidance to fleet users for resolving issues with MK 7 Mod 3 and Mod 4 equipment.
  • Evaluate design concepts and propose enhancements for MK 7 recovery systems.
  • Advise Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) leadership on engineering, design, and operational requirements.
  • Analyze and recommend testing methods to improve the effectiveness and reliability of MK 7 recovery equipment.
  • Lead engineering investigations to identify root causes of failures and provide solutions for system improvements.

Conditions of Employment

  • You will be exposed to high noise levels and required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and goggles during work shifts.
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations may be required, including travel by military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Security Clearance is required.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience

To qualify, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or equivalent experience in the private/public sector, including:

  • Coordinating and participating in technical aspects of MK 7 Mod 3 and Mod 4 recovery equipment programs and projects.
  • Leading investigations and troubleshooting efforts related to the mechanical and hydraulic systems of MK 7 recovery equipment.
  • Conducting tradeoff studies, developing troubleshooting procedures, and continuously improving processes for MK 7 recovery systems.
  • Reviewing proposed modifications to the MK 7 systems and providing recommendations for operational and safety improvements.
  • Supporting the development and procurement of MK 7 recovery equipment through technical expertise.
  • Representing the organization in high-level conferences and providing technical information.

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program (ABET).
  2. Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  3. Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  4. 60 semester hours of relevant coursework in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including required courses in engineering fundamentals.
  5. A degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc.) with professional engineering experience.

  • This position is subject to the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
  • A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if pre-employment requirements are not met.
  • Federal annuitants must adhere to the Department of Defense and Navy employment policies.
  • For ICTAP applicants: displaced federal employees must provide supporting documentation to receive priority consideration.
