Duties:

  • Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate breakdown causes and correct issues.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and necessary adjustments or repairs, ensuring compliance with National Electric Codes, Unified Facilities Criteria, and State and Local requirements.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure system compatibility and safety.
  • Utilize construction practices of electronic equipment to recognize types and sizes of resistors, capacitors, wiring, and transistors.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before starting the position.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes throughout the work shift.
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites, may be required. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Required to complete training and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications:

  • Experience and training to perform the duties of the position. Emphasis on quality of experience over length of time.
  • The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a maintenance mechanic without more than normal supervision, which includes:
    • Troubleshooting, repairing, and installing a variety of industrial systems and equipment.
    • Ensuring work is in compliance with specifications and completed on time.
    • Locating malfunctions and testing completed work.
    • Using standard test procedures, schematics, and technical manuals to complete assignments.

Physical Effort:

  • The position involves repairing and installing equipment from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard-to-reach places.
  • Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions for long periods.
  • Must lift and carry tools and equipment up to 40 pounds, occasionally requiring assistance for heavier items.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to bad weather, noisy, dusty, greasy environments, and heights of up to 30 feet or more.
  • Occasional exposure to the risk of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and moving equipment.

Additional Information:

  • This position uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates.
  • Relocation incentives may be authorized, but PCS is not.
  • A 40-hour work week is typical, but shift work, overtime, and working nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • Federal annuitant information and Veteran's preference policies apply under specific circumstances.
