Police Officer

Duties:

• Perform law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain law and order during normal and emergency operations.
• Ensure the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of individuals.
• Patrol DLA installations and property to prevent crime, protect life and property, and enforce local regulations and laws.
• Plan and conduct initial investigations of suspicious activities, security breaches, and crimes.
• Advise suspects of their Miranda rights prior to questioning, write incident and activity reports, and detain suspects.
• Secure and process crime scenes, conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and obtain witness statements.
• Act as the first responder to emergencies such as terrorist attacks, hostage situations, bomb threats, vehicle accidents, robberies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergencies.
• Perform fixed post operations within DLA installations or at perimeter gates.
• Control access to sensitive/restricted areas to prevent breaches of security or public safety.
• Inspect outgoing personnel, vehicles, and packages at various gates and checkpoints to detect theft of government property.
• Provide specialized pedestrian and traffic control services during events such as ceremonies, parades, or emergency situations.
• Perform traffic duties including directing traffic, issuing tickets/notices for vehicle violations, and managing parking violations.
• Coordinate emergency responses between security, fire, and other emergency units, and respond to 911/100 emergency calls.

Requirements:

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must work rotating shifts.
• Security clearance required: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access.
• Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination.
• Must be registered with Selective Service (for males born after 12-31-59).
• Recruitment incentives may be authorized.
• Must complete pre-employment physical testing at designated DLA sites (New Cumberland, PA; Richmond, VA; Ft Belvoir, VA; Columbus, OH; Tracy, CA).
• Valid State Driver’s License is required.

Qualifications:

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in law enforcement operations and techniques, involving responsibility for maintaining order, protecting life and property, and investigating incidents.

• Experience in investigating violations or reports of incidents using basic investigative methods and techniques.

  Physical Demands:

  • Requires stamina, physical agility, and strength to pursue, apprehend, or detain individuals.
  • Physical exertion from activities such as running, walking, standing, bending, or carrying items up to 50 lbs or more.
  • Must pass regular physical fitness tests, including annual testing.

  Work Environment:

  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, and potential life-threatening situations.
  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment, such as vests, gloves, boots, and masks.

Education:

• No specific education qualification requirement.

Additional Information:

• Mission Essential: This position is designated as Mission Essential, meaning it cannot be vacated during war or national emergencies.
• Training: Officers receive training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and the Army Civilian Police Academy.
