Duties:

  • Assist engineers and technicians in completing projects, products, and services accurately and timely.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Exercise judgment to select appropriate guidelines and decide on alternative approaches, referring inadequate guidelines to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of working drawings, diagrams, revisions, material lists, test specifications, sketches, simple calculations, and other relevant documentation for conventional systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and drafts of technical correspondence as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Provide technically correct analysis of work package requirements and resolve technical issues, or develop engineered solutions to problems related to complex systems or equipment.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Appointment of retired military members within 180 days of retirement to a civilian position is subject to provisions of 5 U.S.C. 3326.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to do so may result in job offer withdrawal or removal.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes) continuously during work shifts.
  • May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Work may expose you to harmful physical and chemical agents (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, radiation, chemicals) requiring participation in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications:

For GS-09:

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience should demonstrate providing professional engineering support in technical, mechanical, or electrical services for components, support equipment, or facilities in an engineering program.

For GS-07:

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience should demonstrate professional engineering support in technical, mechanical, or electrical services for components, support equipment, or facilities associated with an engineering program.

For GS-05:

  • Your resume must meet the basic educational requirements as detailed in the Education section.

Education:

  • For GS-07: One year of graduate-level education or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.
  • For GS-09: Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Basic Educational Requirements:

  • Degree: Engineering (accredited by ABET or equivalent).
  • OR Combination of education and experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that demonstrates a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques.

Additional Qualification Information:

  • Professional registration or licensure: Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Written Test: Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Specified Academic Courses: Completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
  • Related Curriculum: Completion of a curriculum in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, etc.), with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
