Position Overview:

The Interdisciplinary Engineer role involves providing expert engineering support, ensuring compliance with agency policies and standards, and conducting detailed engineering surveillance for Department of Defense (DoD) acquisitions. The position requires leadership and advanced engineering functions, including contractor performance assessment, overseeing the software development lifecycle, and monitoring critical engineering changes.

Key Duties:

  1. Policy Implementation ; Engineering Support: Implement agency policies, providing expert engineering advice across multiple functions.
  2. Engineering Surveillance: Analyze engineering developments, monitor contractor performance using DCMA metrics, and provide feedback to the Chief Engineer (CE).
  3. Contractor Performance ; Compliance: Assess and record contractor performance, ensuring adherence to contracts in cost, schedule, and performance.
  4. Document Preparation ; Evaluation: Prepare and evaluate technical documents addressing engineering/manufacturing issues.
  5. Leadership in Surveillance: Provide technical leadership in engineering/analytical surveillance, ensuring accurate implementation of agency policies.
  6. Monitoring ; Technical Recommendations: Oversee complex contractor engineering systems, providing recommendations for substantive and critical changes.
  7. Contract Receipt and Review (CRR): Evaluate production engineering, logistics, and support programs, ensuring effective engineering planning schedules and review of special tooling/testing equipment.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Security Clearance: Special Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Drug Testing: Required.
  • Selective Service Registration: Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • Financial Disclosure: Required.

Qualifications:

  1. Basic Requirement:

    • A Bachelor's degree in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
    • OR a combination of education, training, or technical experience in engineering sciences, including the completion of specific courses in core engineering subjects such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical circuits, etc.
  2. Professional Registration/Exam (optional but preferred):

    • Registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE).
    • OR successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  3. Specialized Experience:

    • One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 or equivalent level, demonstrating the ability to apply engineering principles to complex defense acquisition systems, oversee software engineering, and provide technical advice on contractor compliance and contract changes.

Education Substitution:

  • Education can substitute for some experience, but specialized experience is necessary for this grade level. Transcripts are required for verification.

Physical and Additional Requirements:

  • Tour of Duty: Flexible.
  • Trial/Probationary Period: May be required.
  • Acquisition Certification: Must complete DoD Acquisition Engineering and Technical Management Practitioner 2 certification and earn 80 Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every 2 years.

  • Reemployed Annuitants: This position does not meet the criteria for the appointment of reemployed annuitants.
  • Relocation/Retention Incentives: May be authorized at management’s discretion.
