Facility Operations Center Engineer

Overview:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a talented and dedicated individual to join its Facility Operations Center (FOC) within the Data Center Infrastructure Operations organization. The FOC is responsible for the 24/7 monitoring of critical infrastructure systems across AWS data centers. As a member of this team, you will ensure the reliability and availability of AWS's data center operations, playing a key role in maintaining the customer experience by handling critical alarms and incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and Respond to Alarms: Actively monitor infrastructure systems (e.g., chillers, generators, UPS, PDUs) and respond to, acknowledge, investigate, and dispatch critical alarms to ensure continued availability.
• Infrastructure Support: Assist onsite operations teams by managing physical infrastructure tasks, creating and issuing tickets, and following change management processes.
• Documentation and Communication: Properly document technical customer issues and communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure timely resolution.
• Shift Work: This role requires flexible schedules, including weekend, night, and holiday shifts to ensure 24/7 operations.
• Safety and Reliability: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational standards to meet or exceed defined service levels for AWS data center operations.

A Day in the Life:

• The FOC serves as the heart of AWS data center infrastructure monitoring, ensuring all critical systems are functioning smoothly. You’ll be a key player in helping AWS maintain high availability, safety, and operational excellence, especially during emergencies and system failures.
• You will communicate directly with AWS teams and collaborate with Data Center Engineers to quickly resolve issues affecting infrastructure equipment.

About the Team:

The FOC is responsible for proactively monitoring the life-safety systems and infrastructure alarms in AWS data centers. The team ensures that all critical physical infrastructure systems, such as chillers, generators, temperature sensors, and more, are functioning optimally, supporting AWS’s vast global infrastructure. The team’s work is essential in keeping the cloud running smoothly, ensuring that customers always have access to AWS services.

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • 3+ years of technical support experience, or a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of customer-facing IT or physical security systems/infrastructure work experience.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in documenting technical customer issues and managing service requests.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
• Flexibility:
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime.
• Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • 3+ years of customer service experience in technical environments.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Microsoft Office tools and applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex systems.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Pay: Ranges from $68,300/year in the lowest geographic market to $152,700/year in the highest geographic market.
• Total Compensation: Amazon offers a comprehensive compensation package, including equity, sign-on bonuses, and a range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
